Alan Neal Levy

Alan Neal Levy (He/They) is a writer, theatre artist, and retired teacher. As a young adult, Alan lived in Hartford – first on Sigourney St. and then on Capitol Ave. After teaching at Weaver HS, they were hired as the Director of Youth Theatre Unlimited. Alan was the last person to walk through the Old Place Theatre, where YTU was operating, before it was demolished to make way for State House Square. Alan then founded Hartford Children's Theatre, which recently closed after 24 years. They lived in the South End (Zion St.) for the first four years running HCT - across from the Trinity Rocks, where they learned to dance Salsa at concerts and parties in the park. In 1992, Alan Neal Levy bought a house in Mansfield. After leaving Hartford Children's Theatre, they taught at Coventry High School for nine years. Then Alan taught at the International School of Port of Spain in the island nation of Trinidad and Tobago, where they became addicted to doubles, a popular street food. They also taught at Española Valley High School in Española, New Mexico before returning to Conn. Alan then taught at one of Hartford's magnet high schools - Pathways Academy of Technology and Design. They served two years as a Curriculum Specialist for Hartford Public Schools before completing their final teaching assignment in Beijing China.

Land Back

I honor the Nipmuc Nation and other indigenous ancestors who lived and raised their families here and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, Eastern Pequot Tribal Nation, Schaghticoke Tribal Nation, Golden Hill Paugussett Tribal Nation and Mohegan Tribe who hunted, fished, drank and bathed here.

Before I leave this magical place, I promise to do everything in my power to remove this Land from private ownership and return it to indigenous domain.
